Rugby Scholarship

Level 2/3

Duration 1-2 years

TRC Sports Scholarships

This programme is for students playing at a high standard of rugby and wish to continue to do so while studying for FE qualifications.

What will I study?

The Rotherham Rugby Scholarship is a partnership between Thomas Rotherham College and Rotherham Titans.

The Academy is the best stepping stone in the local area to the professional game. Rotherham Titans are committed to seeing players in the Academy playing at the highest level possible, be that for the Academy, for the players’ clubs (or the Colts if you don’t already have a club), or even the Titans’ 1st XV. Remember many former Rotherham Titans’ players have progressed to the Premiership and even international rugby.

Players will get up to 7 hours’ rugby based training a week. The team will play regular fixtures which will be a combination of high quality friendlies and league and cup games. Regular contact with the Titans will help progression from the Scholarship onwards. Additionally, the players will be studying academically at TRC.

Entry Criteria

Standard Level 3/2 entry criteria.

We will expect you to work hard both academically and physically when you are in the programme. The College has academic requirements that you will need to achieve to secure your place:

This is currently a male-only course as R.F.U regulations prohibit mixed competitive matches and training over the age of 12 and there is currently insufficient demand to form a female team.

Women’s Rugby Development Pathway

Thomas Rotherham College is pleased to offer a developing Women’s Rugby pathway, allowing female players to continue rugby alongside their studies.
The women’s offer is festival and competition based, designed to support player development while numbers continue to grow across the FE sector. Students on this pathway will have opportunities to:
  • Represent TRC at regional and invitational rugby festivals
  • Enter the Yorkshire Regional 7s Tournament
  • Play friendly fixtures where appropriate
  • Take part in structured team training, delivered weekly or through a rotational block model
This pathway enables players to balance education, club rugby, and competitive college rugby, and forms the starting point for the longer‑term development of a full female rugby programme at TRC.
