The TRC Careers programme is delivered through the tutorial programme, student briefings, careers events and 1:1 IAG support and is designed to support the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.
The specialist Job Ready tutorial programme supports those students in their final year who are targeting the world of work and apprenticeship opportunities after college. Sessions in the programme include:
We draw on our experienced bank of Employers in Education to input on sessions such as:
The Job Ready event and Recruitment Fair held in the spring term, gives those students targeting employment/apprenticeships a mock interview with an employer/apprenticeship provider as closely related as possible to their chosen career area. This gives students the opportunity to put the skills they have been developing throughout the programme into practice and gain feedback on their CV and interview performance to help enhance their future applications and interview techniques. The recruitment fair enables students to gain a realistic insight into the local labour market opportunities on offer and help them decide which employers they want to target upon completion of their level 3 studies.
The first-year tutorial programme provides students with an introduction into the support available and information on the options after TRC. The annual Autumn TRC Careers Fair, which sees around 70 exhibitors representing HE, employment and apprenticeship opportunities, gives all students the chance to engage with a wide range of providers to research the options open to them. Towards the end of the first year the focus moves towards informing students of UCAS (University College Admissions Service) and to those students applying for competitive careers such as Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Science, Allied Healthcare (Optometry, Pharmacy, Midwifery, Nursing etc.) and Primary teaching specialist support by the careers team.
The Options Evening Event and University Open Day Visit in June/July time helps inform parents and student of their option after college.
In their final year those students applying to university can access specialist support with writing their personal statements to competitive Russell Group Universities as well as accessing several widening participation initiatives to support those students who are first generation to university.
