FOYLE YOUNG POETS OF THE YEAR AWARD 2025

A massive congratulations to TRC student, Nathan, on being amongst those awarded the 2025 Top 15 Foyle Young Poets of the Year.

Devised and run by The Poetry Society, and developed with long standing partnership funding from The Foyle Foundation, the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is firmly established as one of the world’s leading writing competitions for young people aged 11 to 17 years. In 2025, a record-breaking 28,344 poems were entered into the competition from 10,920 young poets. Young people from 135 countries took part from as far afield as Botswana, Fiji, Vietnam, and Venezuela, as well as the four corners of the UK.

The winning poets explore a huge array of subjects from politics, painting, language and loss, through to identity and belonging. There are state-of-the-nation poems and poems that call for an end to global violence; some expose the fragility of peace, while others evoke politicians from Éamon de Valera to Ed Davey.

Young poets came from all over the UK to celebrate their achievement and to meet their peers at the British Library. It was the perfect setting to honour the young poets that the judges had praised for their confidence, humour, invention, curiosity and sheer intelligence.
